Q&A with Social Media Coordinator & Project Manager

Posted on November 14th, 2018 by Rachel White

This week I get to show you the face behind most of our blog and social media posts—me! I’m Rachel White, a project manager, architect, and marketing/social media coordinator. I’ve been with SDG Architects for the last four years. My husband’s job has taken us on quite the wild ride around the US—from Oklahoma, to New York, to Washington DC, and now Houston, Texas. Fortunately for me, Beth has allowed me to work remotely, which means I get to stay involved in the profession while also being more present for my two boys, Nathan (4) and Patrick (2). It’s a little awkward to be both interviewer and interviewee, but here goes…

Q. When you aren't working, what are you likely to be doing? A. Besides chasing my boys, I have been reading a lot. I joined a neighborhood book club over the summer and am proud to say I’ve read 5 books* cover-to-cover in the last 3 months (which I’m pretty sure is four more than I’ve ever read in that time period since my eldest was born!)

Q. What's the most recent bit of knowledge you've picked up? A. I won’t bore you with the details of determining the make-up of historic stucco, but let’s just say I’ve been learning a lot about historic preservation methods by reading historic preservation briefs for one of our projects, The Broadway Lofts, located in downtown Ardmore.

Q. What is something you have read or seen recently that wish you could share with everyone you meet? A. Recently I’ve been feeling so inspired by a lot of women I follow on social media. One I have really enjoyed is This Little Miggy, who has been posting about the renovation of her new house into an accessible home for her daughter with a disability.

*In case anyone is interested, the books are: Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton, Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, and Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. I recommend them all!
